Dental Implants
Natural-looking dental implants in Islington
Losing a tooth can affect more than your smile; it impacts how you eat, speak and feel. Our friendly team creates personalised implant solutions that restore your teeth and your self-assurance. We offer single, multiple, and full arch dental implants.
We’re with you every step of the way.
What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. Over the following weeks, the implant fuses with the surrounding bone in a natural process called osseointegration, creating a stable, permanent foundation for a replacement tooth.
Once the implant has integrated, a connector piece called an abutment is attached to the post, and a custom-made crown is fitted on top. The result is a restoration that looks, feels, and functions just like a natural tooth and with proper care, it can last for decades.
Unlike dentures, which rest on the gums and can move or slip, or bridges, which require healthy neighbouring teeth to be filed down for support, dental implants stand independently. They preserve your natural teeth, protect your jawbone from deterioration, and give you the confidence to eat, speak, and smile without worry.

Why choose Dental Implants?
When you’re missing one or more teeth, the three main replacement options are dental implants, bridges, and dentures. Each has its place, and the right choice depends on your situation, budget, and long-term goals.
Dental implants can fully restore your smile and confidence, with as close to natural looking teeth as possible. The teeth on implants are fully functional and comparable to natural teeth in almost every way.
Implants vs Bridges
A traditional dental bridge uses the teeth on either side of a gap as anchors, which means those healthy teeth need to be filed down to support the bridge. While bridges can be effective, they place additional strain on the anchor teeth over time, and the area beneath the bridge can be harder to clean. Dental implants, by contrast, stand independently – they don’t require any alteration to neighbouring teeth, and they stimulate the jawbone to help prevent bone loss.
Implants vs Dentures
Removable dentures are a more affordable initial option, but they can slip, cause discomfort, and require adhesive to stay in place. Over time, the jawbone beneath a denture can shrink because it’s no longer being stimulated by a tooth root, which can change the shape of your face and make the denture fit less securely. Dental implants function like natural teeth, preserving the bone and giving you the stability to eat and speak with confidence.
Why Many Patients Choose Implants?
While implants have a higher upfront cost than bridges or dentures, they are designed to be a long-term solution. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, implants can last for many years; often far outlasting alternatives. Many patients tell us they wish they’d made the decision sooner.
Aftercare and How Long Dental Implants Last
One of the greatest advantages of dental implants is their longevity. The titanium implant itself is designed to last a lifetime, while the crown or restoration on top will typically last 15 to 20 years or more before it may need replacing, depending on wear and care.
The key to long-lasting implants is good aftercare and it’s simpler than many patients expect.
Caring for Your Implants
- Brush twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush, paying attention to the gum line around the implant
- Use interdental brushes or floss to clean between and around the implant, just as you would with natural teeth
- Attend regular hygiene appointments – our hygienist Beata will help you keep your implants and surrounding gums in excellent condition
- Visit us for routine check-ups so we can monitor the implant and catch any issues early
- Avoid habits that put excessive force on your teeth, such as chewing ice or using your teeth as tools
What to Expect After Surgery
After implant placement, some mild swelling is expected and normal though this can vary from person to person. Tenderness is normal and usually settles within a few days. We’ll provide you with clear aftercare instructions and pain relief recommendations. Most patients return to their normal routine within a day or two unless extensive grafting procedures have taken place such as sinus lift. We schedule a review appointment two to three weeks after placement to check everything is healing well.
How are Dental Implants fitted?
Initial clinical examination is vital in preparation of implant treatment. A CBCT scan is prescribed to evaluate the bone and based on clinical and radiographic findings, we decide on single or multiple implant placement to replace the missing teeth. In patients with failing dentition or no teeth at all, we can perform full arch treatment known as the All On 4/All on 6 procedure. Dental Impressions may be required as well as part of pre planning.
The surgical placement of the implants, under local anaesthetic or sedation , is the second and main part of the full procedure. When you arrive on the day, we will ensure that you are comfortable. We understand that many patients feel nervous or anxious but rest assured that you are in safe hands. Our team will answer all your questions and do everything possible to settle you in before the treatment starts.
A review appointment is scheduled two to three weeks after the implant placement.
Two to three months following the review appointment, we will see you again for impressions and approximately two to three weeks after, the customised implant crowns are fitted into the implants.
Then, all that’s left for you to do is enjoy a healthy, confident smile!
We can also perform a procedure known as ‘teeth in one day’, please ask for more information if interested. Please note, the treatment carried out within individual appointments may vary depending on your personal situation.
